Abstract

As you drive through the main entrance of University of Twente you immediately see an imposing building on your left. The Spiegel (The Mirror) dates from the university's earliest day since it was thoroughly restored in 2001, which is when the signature glass facade was added that gives the building its present name. Just as the Mirror's glass facade reflects the university so too - albeit rather more abstractly - does University of Twente reflect the society within which it originated. This is the story of University of Twente's firs half-century, seen form that point if view.
